I am so sorry for the loss of Uncle Johnny and am sad I can’t be there in person today. Johnny was loved by all his family and we will really miss our family get togethers at Christmas when he visited Sydney. Zoe, Lachlan and Cameron have fond memories of Johnny and we all send our love especially to Barbara as it was so lovely to see their great friendship over the years and I am sure she will miss that very much x

John was my third-year Australian history tutor at Monash in the early ’80’s. I remember him as erudite, fun, kind and for his interesting tutes and clear communication; his tolerance and encouragement. I especially recall a wonderful day when he took our group for an “excursion” into Melbourne to see the Grainger Museum, the 8 Hour monument; and Trades Hall (amongst other destinations). We finished off with a drink at the John Curtin Hotel. It was a lovely day and brings fond memories. I was very sorry to hear of his passing, as he was one of the many reasons I have to value my time at Monash with gratitude. Sharyn Anderson
